GO WRECK DIVING ON KOH TAO!

Go wreck diving on Koh Tao and learn the skills and techniques you need to plan and execute wreck dives safely and comfortably.

PADI WRECK DIVER COURSE

Have you ever dreamed of becoming an underwater treasure hunter? That’s exactly how you’ll feel on the PADI Wreck Diver course! Wreck diving is one of the most fascinating aspects of scuba diving. All that history, mystery, and intrigue is irresistible - especially when you have the chance to explore inside a wreck!

Most scuba divers tend to be adventurous people who thrive on the thrill of looking upon what was once a living piece of history. It’s an unbeatable feeling, and wreck diving on Koh Tao is especially exciting because the sunken remains of the HTMS Sattakut are just a short boat ride away from our base on Sairee Beach.

PADI WRECK COURSE: OVERVIEW

You’ll need 2 days to complete the course. We’ll be sure to schedule our other Koh Tao diving trips and classes around the Wreck Diver schedule so we can get out to the HTMS Sattakut as much as possible. At nearly 50 metres long, there’s plenty to keep you occupied on all 4 dives!

The conditions for wreck diving on Koh Tao are excellent for most of the year. Plus, because the HTMS Sattakut was purposely sunk for scuba training, it’s one of the safest dive sites to pick up all the skills, knowledge, and experience you need to explore other wrecks around the world.

KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT

The theory section of the Wreck Diver course is fun and interactive. It includes a little classroom time and some practice with reels on land. Thankfully, there’s plenty of space on the beach at our Koh Tao dive centre to practice without getting tangled!  The complete list of theory topics covered includes:

  • Evaluating and planning wreck dives.

  • Mapping a shipwreck

  • Using reels to aid external exploration

  • Using reels to aid wreck penetration

  • Techniques to avoid silting out a wreck

  • Additional safety considerations for wreck diving

OPEN WATER WRECK DIVES

The first two dives focus on evaluating the HTMS Sattakut for ease of navigation, assessing possible penetration points, and identifying potential hazards. On the third dive, you’ll practice laying out reels externally before replicating these inside and penetrating the wreck on dive 4.

WRECK DIVER COURSE SCHEDULE

While weather conditions sometimes affect our schedule, here’s a typical example of what you can expect on each day:

DAY 1

The course starts at 9am with an orientation. You’ll meet your instructor and the rest of your group (3 other people, max), review the course schedule, fill in some PADI paperwork, and get going on your knowledge development.

You’ll head out on the boat in the afternoon to complete your first two wreck dives. Underwater, you’ll identify hazards and points of interest, and work on a map of the HTMS Sattakut to help you plan your reel layout and penetration dives the following day.

DAY 2

You’ll use the morning to review your map on land and complete a reel workshop to practice the techniques you’ll need to replicate underwater on the final dives. In the afternoon, it’s time to put everything you’ve learned into practice and explore inside the wreck!

When you return to shore, you’ll update your logbook and complete your PADI paperwork so we can process your certification. Then it’s time to catch the sunset and celebrate becoming a certified wreck diver with your instructor and coursemates.

WRECK DIVER PRICES
