As a species, we’ve always been driven to go further, see more, and explore beyond, and the PADI Deep Diver course allows you to do exactly that.
Deep diving on Koh Tao promises an incredible thrill thanks to the number of dive sites we have to explore - a plethora of untouched deeper wrecks, reefs, granite pinnacles, and walls that take you far beyond what the average diver will ever see.
COURSE OVERVIEW
You’ll need 2 days to complete the course. We’ll be sure to schedule our other Koh Tao diving trips and courses around the Deep Diver schedule so we can get you to some of the best dive sites where you can really appreciate the value of extending your limits.
Because we have excellent conditions for most of the year, deep diving on Koh Tao is both safe and enjoyable. In fact, this is one of the best places to pick up all the skills, knowledge, and experience you need to explore safely at greater depth in other locations.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN?
Like most Koh Tao dive courses, the PADI Deep Diver comprises a mix of interactive classroom sessions and open water dives. You’ll learn to safely plan and conduct no decompression dives between 18 and 40 metres and be introduced to new equipment and planning procedures. Plus, you’ll pick up heaps of top tips and techniques for deep diving on Koh Tao and beyond.
KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT
The good news is that most of the skills and observations on this course are practical rather than academic. So you’ll only need one theory session, which will be led by one of our experienced instructors at our Koh Tao dive centre in the heart of Sairee using official PADI training materials. OPEN WATER DEEP DIVES
Every single dive on this course goes to 18 metres and below, and you’ll get to explore some of the best Koh Tao diving spots like Chumphon Pinnacle and Southwest Pinnacles. The exact sites we visit will depend on conditions, as we always want you to have the safest and most enjoyable time. However, we promise they will be awesome!
DIVE DEEPER FOR LONGER
Want to really max out on the benefits of deep diving on Koh Tao? Combine your Deep Diver course with the PADI Enriched Air Specialty to increase your bottom times and maximise your potential. Diving on nitrox is highly recommended on dives below 30m, and you’ll only need an extra half-day to cover the academics and get both certifications.
PADI DEEP DIVER SCHEDULE
While weather conditions sometimes affect our schedule, here’s a typical example of what you can expect on each day:
DAY 1
The course starts at 9am with an orientation. You’ll meet your instructor and the rest of your group (3 other people, max), review the course schedule, fill in some PADI paperwork, and get going on your knowledge development.
You’ll head out on the boat in the afternoon to complete your first two deep dives. Underwater, you’ll compare changes in colour, check the accuracy of your depth gauges, and observe and record how increased pressure affects flexible objects.
DAY 2
You’ll head out on a morning dive trip to complete your 40 metre dive and a second, shallower dive. Under the supervision of your instructor, you’ll perform a nitrogen narcosis test and simulate an emergency decompression stop - which you’d need to do if you ever accidentally exceeded your NDL.
Once back on dry land, you’ll update your logbook and complete your PADI paperwork so we can process your certification. Then it’s time to decompress (literally) and celebrate completing one of the most thrilling PADI diving courses on Koh Tao

DEEP DIVER COURSE PREREQUISITES

Participants must be at least 15 years old

You need to have your PADI Adventure Diver or PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification already (or the equivalent from another agency).

Before taking any scuba diving course on Koh Tao, you must fill in a medical questionnaire. Please contact us before booking if you’re unsure about anything on the form.
EXTRA INFO
Scuba diving on Koh Tao is safe, and accidents are infrequent. However, local laws require us to ensure all our divers have adequate insurance coverage. Some travel insurance policies don't cover scuba, while others do. Therefore, to ensure your safety and retain our excellent safety record, FIFTY SIX DIVE provides free scuba diving insurance for the duration of your Koh Tao scuba diving experience.
